EFCC Detains Ex-NDDC MD, Nsima Ekere
The erstwhile managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC Mr Nsima Ekere has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of impropriety in the award of N47 billion contracts while he held sway at the commission between 2017 and 2019.
Nsima Ekere was also the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the 2019 election in Akwa Ibom State.
GWGNG reports that Nsima Ekere gave himself to the commission following after he got wind of information that the EFCC was narrowing down on him in its probe of the contract awards.
Mr. Ekere who has been based in the United States for most of the time after his election loss and returned to Nigeria before the election season according to a source drove on his own to the commission’s headquarters’ annex in Ikoyi, Lagos. He was said to have been promptly detained.
The Nation which also confirmed the detention of the former NDDC boss quoted a source in the EFCC as saying:
“This commission is investigating alleged diversion of N47billion through registered contractors of NDDC. Some phony contracts were allegedly awarded for diversion purpose.
“Ekere is undergoing interrogation and we have detained him.”
Responding to a question, the source told The Nation: “I think he got hints of a surveillance on him and voluntarily reported to the EFCC’s office in Lagos.”
GWGNG reports that the arrest of Nsima Ekere by the EFCC follows the arrest on Monday of the Accountant General of the Federation, AGF, Ahmed Idris who was alleged to have been implicated in an N80 billion contract scam.
