Governorship aspirants and their supporters under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Akwa Ibom State not inclined to the aspirant backed by the outgoing governor are expressing fears over the possibility of a free and fair primaries and have resorted to appealing to the conscience of the delegates to actualise their aspirations.

The fears are coming upon claims of the determination of the incumbent governor to foist his choice of a successor irrespective of the complaints of the others.

The fears heightened on Wednesday May 18, after the Federal High Court, Abuja adjourned for further hearing and determination of a lawsuit brought before it by some aggrieved governorship aspirants and their supporters seeking an order of injunction restraining the 1st defendant (INEC) and 2nd defendant, PDP accepting, acting on, according recognition to, in any way or manner dealing with any purported list of elected Ad-how delegates from the Ad-hoc Congresses till May 25th, 2022.

The development did not sit well with the camp of the complaints as the court also granted order that the status quo be maintained pending the determination of the matter. The court decision in the consideration of the aggrieved meant that the primaries would have been held before the consideration of their suit.

Amid the fears expressed by some of the Akwa Ibom PDP guber aspirants, some of them have however resorted to wooing the delegates by appealing to their consciences, via the social media.

One of strong contenders for the governorship seat Mr. Akan Okon this week posted: “Dear esteemed delegates of our great party, the future of this state will be determined by the choices you make in the forthcoming governorship primaries.
