Osun Guber: Oyetola Campaign Condems Attack On Supporters, Journalists

Published

on

Osun curfew

The Campaign Council for the re-election of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State has condemned in strong terms the attack in Gbongan on its supporters and other members of the public, including journalists by some hoodlums loyal to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The condemnation was contained in a statement signed by the Director-General of the Campaign Council and Senate’s spokesperson, Sen. Ajibola Basiru.

The attack took place shortly after the Governor and his entourage left the Campaign ground at Gbongan in Ayedaade Local Government area of the State.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate and incumbent Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, had visited Gbongan, Orile-Owu and Ode-Omu, all in Ayedaade Local Government as part of his campaign tour ahead of the July 16 governorship contest.

The Campaign Council further noted that its intelligence gathering indicate that those who carried out the attack are known PDP supporters in Gbongan, Osun State. It therefore urged the PDP to rein in its supporters, just as it appealed to its supporters to remain calm in the face of this obvious provocation.

While insisting that violence cannot give the PDP votes, the Campaign Council further urged its supporters not fight the PDP but come out en mass on July 16 to vote massively for Oyetola so as to shut  their mouths permanently.

“The PDP candidate had given enough notice that he was ready for violence. But we have better things to offer the State, that is why we have been marketing our candidate in a most peaceful and responsible manner. And as we all know, our candidate, Mr Governor is a peace-loving man and will not encourage any action that can jeopardise the peace we enjoy in the State.

“They had their State and National Assembly primaries on Sunday, it was characterised by violence and attacks. We never knew they would extend same to us on Monday. We were done with our campaign. Our candidate had left the place, the rest of us were leaving when they launched the attack.

“We have it on a good authority that a known PDP supporter in Arapajo Street, in Gbongan led the attack on our people and the journalists in our convoy.

“We condemn this attack and urge the police authority to fish out the perpetrators, especially the alleged ring leader that has been identified,” the statement by the Osun governor asserted

Osun Guber: Issues To Note As Supreme Court Gives Judgment

By Ismail Omipidan

Published

on

By

Osun

Other things being equal, by this afternoon, May 9, 2023 the Supreme Court will draw the curtain on the legal tussle and issues over the July 16 governorship election in Osun.

But before then, there are 10 fundamental issues to note:

Issue One, contrary to the position being canvassed by the INEC’s counsel, Professor Paul Ananaba, especially at the Appeal court, to justify his synchronisation position, there is a difference between what happened on July 16 governorship election in Osun and that of the February 25 presidential election.

The point of divergence is about IReV, a mere result uploading and viewing portal, which was not an issue at the Osun Governorship Election Petition Tribunal. PDP did not even stress the issue of IReV at the Tribunal.

However, IReV is part of the issues in the presidential election. So what is the basis of Ananaba drawing a similarity between Osun scenario and that of the presidential election when IReV and BVAS machine serve different purposes and are not the same thing? Sincerely, there was no basis of comparison.

Issue Two, a critical examination of Sections 47 (2)  and 51 (2)of the Electoral Act 2022, which show clearly that a voters register plays no role in establishing over-voting. Section 47 (2) stipulates that “To vote, the presiding officer shall use a smart card reader or any other technological device that may be prescribed by the Commission, for the accreditation of voters, to verify, confirm or authenticate the particulars of the intending voter in the manner prescribed by the Commission.”

Section 51 (2) on the other hand stipulates that “Where the number of votes cast at an election in any polling unit exceeds the number of accredited voters in that polling unit, the presiding officer shall cancel the result of the election in that polling unit.”

Issue Three, the first BVAS report, which the APC and its candidate, Adegboyega Oyetola, obtained from INEC, which formed the basis of their petition, was released to them 10 days after a declaration and a return had been made.

The report was generated by INEC from its back-end server. But some people said due to network challenge, the figures had not been synchronised before it was given to Oyetola and the APC by INEC. The question is: Is it possible for there not to be network for the whole of 10 days to enable the transmitted figure drop on INEC’s server as being canvassed by both counsel for INEC and Senator Adeleke?

Issue Four, for me, the position of INEC in its affidavit to the Court of Appeal recently as it relates to the fact that the accreditation data contained in the BVAS machines could not be tampered with or lost, as they would be stored and easily retrieved from its accredited back-end server, is a vindication of the Osun  Tribunal’s position which relied on the BVAS report obtained from the back-end server by Oyetola and the APC.

Issue Five, the second BVAS report, which was obtained by the PDP during the pendency of the petition, which they said was the synchronised BVAS report, unfortunately had issues as Counsel for  Oyetola and APC were able to point out over-voting in over 100 polling units in that same report.

Issue Six, the report that emanated from Senator Ademola Adeleke, which they said was the outcome of the physical inspection of the BVAS machines and which his counsel prayed the Tribunal to consider while disowning the INEC’s synchronised BVAS report, also admitted that there was over-voting. The only difference being that, according to them, the over-voting occured in only six polling units.

Issue Seven, Senator Ademola Adeleke did not conduct the election; therefore, he could not have submitted a report of an exercise he never conducted. Besides, in my years of reporting election petition proceedings, this is the first time INEC and the beneficiary of the return made by it will not be on the same page. For Senator Ademola Adeleke’s counsel to have disowned the INEC’s synchronised BVAS report, it means something was fundamentally wrong.

Issue Eight, the issuance of another BVAS report after the first one and the production of another report from the inspection of BVAS machines after a petition had been filed based on the earlier BVAS report issued to Oyetola and APC was nothing but an afterthought.

Issue Nine, the Osun Election Petition Tribunal on January 27 nullified the election of Senator Ademola Adeleke as Governor of Osun State on the basis of over-voting, saying, among other things: “In other words, the defenses of the respondents are tainted with fundamental flaws, irreconcilable and unreliable, incapable of defeating the credible evidence tendered by the petitioners in respect of the 744 polling units where over-voting has been established.” In arriving at the decision, the Tribunal examined certain materials, including two BVAS reports and a report that emanated from the candidate of the PDP, following what their counsel called a forensic examination of the BVAS machines used in the conduct of the election.

Issue Ten, forgery was established. But the Tribunal held that his additional qualifications was enough to let him off the hook, while the Appeal court held that an earlier judgement which relating to the matter was enough to exonerate him. But the Oyetola counsel are insisting that it is not a judgment that could be taken judicial notice of because it did not satisfy the condition for it.

Anxiety As Supreme Court Delivers Judgment On Osun Guber

Published

on

By

Supreme Court Osun

ABUJA–The Supreme Court has fixed Tuesday to deliver its judgement on an appeal seeking to sack Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State from office.

A five-man panel of Justices of the apex court adjourned to resolve the legal dispute sorrounding the governorship election that held in the state on July 16, 2022.

It will be recalled that the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had on January 27, in a split decision, voided the declaration of Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as winner of the gubernatorial election.

The Justice Tertsea Kume-led three-member panel tribunal, in its majority verdict, upheld a petition that was brought before it by the former governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who came second in the election.

It held that Adeleke did not score the majority of lawful votes, adding that the conduct of the election was not in substantial compliance with provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.

According to the tribunal, the petitioners, Oyetola and APC, successfully established that there was over voting in 744 polling units in the state.

After deducting the said invalid votes, the tribunal declared Oyetola as winner of the governorship contest, even as it directed the INEC to withdraw the Certificate of Return it earlier issued to Adeleke.

However, in his dissenting judgement, the third member of the panel, Justice P. Ogbuli, affirmed Adeleke as the valid winner of the election, even as he struck out the petition that was lodged by Oyetola and the APC.

Meanwhile, following an appeal that was lodged by Adeleke and the PDP, the Court of Appeal, on March 24, reversed the judgment of the tribunal.

The appellate court, in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel of Justices, held that there was merit in Adeleke’s appeal.

Aside from setting aside the judgement of the tribunal, the court, in its lead judgement that was delivered by Justice Mohammed Shuaibu, awarded a cost of N500, 000 against the APC and its candidate, Gboyega Oyetola.

Dissatisfied with the judgement, both Oyetola and the APC took the matter before the Supreme Court which adjourned the case for judgement after all the parties adopted their final briefs of argument.

After Dangote Kogi Presses BUA Over Non Payment For Land

Published

on

By

BUA Kogi

Kogi House of Assembly on Monday summoned cement manufacturing firm, BUA Group, over a 50,000-hectare land it acquired 10 years ago but has yet to pay for it.

The development is on the heels of the faceoff between the state and another leading Kano businessman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote over the ownership of the Obajana Cement Factory.

The lawmakers gave the summons at a public hearing of one of its ad-hoc committees held at a hotel in Lokoja since its complex was gutted by fire last Monday.

Deputy Speaker of the House, Mr Alfa Momoh-Rabiu, who read the summons after listening to the Acting Surveyor-General of the State, Mr Salihu Mustapha, expressed shock at the attitude of BUA Group.

“We are having problem with the Bua Group over 50,000 hectares of land it acquired in 2012 and even obtained a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) but has not paid a kobo for the land.

“We have written to the group several times but it has not responded to any of the letters.

“No compensation has been paid to the communities that own the expanse of land,’’ the Acting Surveyor-General said at the public hearing.

Mr Umar Tenimu, the ad-hoc committee’s chairman, said that it was an offence for Bua Group to hold the land for more than 10 years without paying for it.

The group should be summoned to come and explain why it refused to pay for the land and why it refused to compensate the community involved, he said.

He added that if BUA Group refused to pay for the land and compensate the community, the Kogi State government shall revoke the C of O.

Osun: Oyetola Appeals Disqualification Of Nomination, Seeks Stay Of Execution

Published

on

By

Oyetola comeback

Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State has appealed the Federal High Court judgement that nullified his nomination as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the July 16, 2022 governorship election in the State.

This is as the Governor and his deputy have also filed an application before the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking to stay execution of the court judgment pending the final determination of the appeal.

Justice Emeka Nwite of the FHC, Abuja, had while delivering ruling in the suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, invalidated the candidacy of Oyetola and his deputy, Benedict Alabi, on the grounds that Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, who submitted their names to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) violated the provisions of Section 183 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Section 82(3) of the Electoral Act, 2022.

Oyetola and Alabi in an appeal filed by the APC through their counsels, Dr Abiodun Layonu (SAN) and Abdulfatai Oyedele, listed 19 grounds of appeal against the lower court judgment.

According to them, the decision of the Federal High Court was against the weight of evidence and constitutes a grave miscarriage of justice. They therefore asked the Court of Appeal to set aside the ruling of the lower court and affirm their nominations as valid and lawful.

In his appeal Oyetola argued that all the actions taken by Governor Buni in respect of his nomination were valid and legally cognizable as it was in compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 and the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.

The appellants noted that the setting up of the defunct Caretaker Committee/Extra-ordinary Planning Committee (CCEPC) by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party did not violate provision of the Constitution and Section 82(3) of the Electoral Act 2022.

The APC further argued that the PDP lacked the locus to commence the legal action against Governor Oyetola as the issue of nomination of candidate was an internal affair of political parties, hence does not concern the PDP.

“By the provision of Section 84(14) of the Electoral Act 2022, it is only an aspirant that participated in the primary election that can complain that the provision of the Electoral Act and the guidelines of the political party have not been complied with in the selection or nomination of candidate of a political party for an election.

“The issue of nomination and sponsorship of candidates of a political party is strictly an internal affair of a political party which is not justiciable. The 1st respondent (the PDP) therefore lacks the locus standi to bring any cause of action that relates to internal affairs of the appellant (APC),” it said.

Another ground of appeal filed by the appellant was that the suit initiated by the PDP had been caught by the Issue of Estoppel which indicates that where an issue has been decided by a competent court, the court will not allow it to be re-litigated by different parties.

“The principal issue raised by the 1st Respondent (PDP) before the trial court is whether the 3rd and 4th Defendants (Oyetola and his deputy) were validly nominated and sponsored for the Gubernatorial Election held in Osun on the 16th of July, 2022.

“This same issue involving the same parties have been laid to rest in the case of JEGEDE V. INEC (2021) 14 NWLR (1797) 409 and Plaintiff suit as presently constituted is a duplication, repetition and remake of what has been settled and decided by the Supreme Court in the said case.

“The provisions of Sections 180 and 183 of the Constitution upon which the decision of the Supreme Court in JEGEDE V. INEC was based is still very extant.”

The appellant therefore held that the suit filed by the PDP was an abuse of Court process and that the trial court lacked the jurisdiction to adjudicate upon it.

The APC also argued that the suit filed by the PDP was statute-barred as the party failed to file the case within the time frame stipulated by the Constitution, hence, the court lacks the jurisdiction to adjudicate upon it.

“The law stipulates that every pre-election matter must be filed within 14 days from the date of occurrence of the event, decision and act complained of in the suit. The period within which to file action elapsed on the 31st of March, 2022, and the PDP filed the suit on 7 April.

“Therefore, the court lacks the jurisdiction to adjudicate upon the 1st respondent’s suit as the action was statute barred. The act complained of came into existence on or before 18th March, 2022 and not 25th March, 2022 as claimed by the 1st respondent.”

Osun Guber: Oyetola’s Aide, Omipidan Hits Back At YIAGA

… Don’t Be Misled By PDP

Published

on

By

Omipidan Muslims Tinubu

The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun, Ismail Omipidan, has described the claim by YIAGA Africa that he ‘twisted’ facts as untrue and misleading, saying all he did was to analyse the outcome of the July 16 election as presented by the group on Thursday, September 9, 2022.

He also urged the Civil Society Organisation, CSO, not to allow itself to be misled by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Osun, whose stock in trade are lies and propaganda.

Omipidan was reacting to the rejoinder by YIAGA where the group accused the Governor’s spokesman of ‘twisting’ facts.

Omipidan wondered which report YIAGA read to have drawn the kind of conclusion it drew on his person and personality, arguing that what he did in his article was simply to place the report of YIAGA side-by-side Oyetola’s petition before the Tribunal, subject both to critical analysis and  make his deductions therefrom.

He asked further: Did YIAGA report not state that ‘an analysis of the number of registered voters and the PVC collected by polling units revealed some inconsistencies in the data”? Did YIAGA not assert that “findings from the analysis on the Osun PVC collection data revealed that the total number of PVCs collected for 30 polling units was greater than the total number of registered voters in those polling units”?  Did it not state that these inconsistencies were recorded in 12 LGAs?

Did YIAGA report not state that  ‘based on results entered on the ERAD database, there

was a variation in the total number of rejected ballots, and the figures announced by INEC at the final collation?”

“Did it not say that “For instance in Osun, the total rejected ballots as compiled from the polling units by the ERAD is 21,886, while  the total number of rejected ballots as announced at the INEC’s state collation in Osun state is 18,674′?

“Did YIAGA not state that ‘based on ERAD findings, INEC presiding officers uploaded forms or documents other than Form EC8A as prescribed in the guidelines and manual for the election”? Did YIAGA not assert that “From the result sheets downloaded on the IReV, important delimitation data such as number of registered voters and accredited voters for polling units was either omitted or wrongly inputted on the Form EC8A’?

“Or did YIAGA not state categorically that ‘contrary to the provisions of the electoral act 2022 and INEC guidelines and regulations, some polling unit level results (Form EC8A) uploaded on the IReV were not stamped or signed by the presiding officer’? So, which fact did I twist?, Omipidan queried.

He went further to say that “in the piece under reference, after reproducing some of the findings of YIAGA, as reproduced above, I went further to say that we discovered in 749 polling units that the accreditation through BVAS was less than the number of votes cast in those units, and that by implication, there were more voters than accredited by the BVAS. And I gave a few examples to buttress my argument. For instance, I said in Ede-North ward 5, Alusekere Unit 004, Owode Primary School, where the governor-elect comes from, the total votes cast for that unit was 1,267 but BVAS recorded only 858 as accredited voters.

“Based on my analysis, I reinstated my earlier assertion that my Principal, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, only lost the vote count and not the election. So, show me the facts I have twisted here? I want to appeal to the respected CSO and its leadership not to allow the Osun PDP , whose stock in trade are lies and propaganda to mislead them,” Omipidan added.

Osun To Hold Local Government Election One Month Before Oyetola’s Exit

Published

on

By

Osun curfew

Local government election is to be conducted in Osun State on October 15, 2022, a month to the scheduled end of tenure of the outgoing governor of the state, Mr Gboyega Oyetola.

The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) announced the decision at a press conference addressed by the chairman of the Commission, Otunba Segun Oladitan at the OSIEC office in Osogbo, the state capital, on Monday.

According to him, the election would have taken place two years ago, but circumstances including litigations, COVID-19 pandemic and EndSARS protest hindered it.

Noting that a new legal framework to conduct the local government election has recently been passed through by the Osun State House of Assembly, Oladitan said, “The commission is happy to inform you and the general public that the Local Government Elections in Osun State of Nigeria shall be conducted on the 15th day of October, 2022.

“You would kindly recollect that when this Commission conducted elections in January 2018, it was based on parliamentary system. I have the pleasure to inform you that the elections we are conducting this 2022 shall be on presidential system whereby Chairmen of Local Government Councils shall be elected and Ward Councillors shall be elected separately.”

Oladitan said the commission had been making necessary contacts with relevant stakeholders and carrying out in-house preparations for the conduct of local government elections.

“In accordance with the Oath which we Members of the Commission took we shall ensure that the elections are free, fair, transparent and credible. We therefore seek for the support of you the Fourth Estate of the realm is giving balanced, fair and impartial reportage of our activities before, during and after the elections,” he added.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP which is to take over from the outgoing All Progressives Congress, APC having won the governorship election is yet to respond to the decision.

PDP Accuses Osun APC Of Hacking INEC Server, Electoral Banditry

Published

on

By

PDP APC Delta ballot boxes

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Thursday accused the All Progressives Congress, APC in Osun State of embarking on a journey of electoral banditry through hacking the server of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC towards reversing the result of the recent governorship election.

The party in a statement made available to GWG said that fears that the APC may have hacked the INEC server were upon the claims of the Osun State chairman of the APC, Gboyega Famodun of plots to falsify the electoral results of the July 16 election.

Affirming that the results of the Osun governorship election were unambiguous at the polling stations and as recorded in the BIOVAS machines, the PDP said that it would amount to putting truth in its head for the APC to try to steal its mandate for the second time.

The statement signed by Dr Akindele Adekunle, Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the PDP read thus:

Our attention has been called to a deceitful statement from the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC) alleging attempt to falsify electoral results from the July 16th elections. By this false alarm, Mr Gboyega Famodun has inadvertently confirmed social media rumours that the APC and its legal team have hacked the server of the electoral commission.

We read so many social media posts in the last 48 hours about APC having doctored election results and procured fake electoral reports from the national headquarters of the electoral commission to provide basis for its election petition. We read of how the commission leadership detected the attempted fraud nipped in the bud by the reality of primary source data from the BIVAS machine. We had ignored such rumours as we were convinced that the sanctity of the voting data cannot be compromised.

We Have Confidence In INEC To Stop APC From Hacking Server – PDP

We equally have undiluted faith in the leadership of the commission under Prof Mahmud Yakubu that no criminal minded personnel will be allowed to tarnish the new image of the electoral body. What is more, we are confident that the publicly announced results with signed forms by party agents and primary data in the BIVAS machines are sufficient proof of PDP’ victory at the election. The social media posts of hacking of INEC server was thus discountenanced by us as largely impossible under a rebranded INEC.

The statement from Mr Famodun Wednesday day night however changed the dynamics. We take the fake allegations against PDP as a grand plot to justify the illegality already embarked upon by the APC. The diversionary accusation authenticates APC high profile agenda to embark on criminality to justify a baseless election petition. It is against logical reasoning for PDP that won an election globally certified as free and fair to attempt falsification of publicly available results.

We as a party has the votes, the primary data and the public on our side as we emerged victorious, beating an incumbent with all the establishment infrastructure. The only clear suspect evidently angling for another stolen mandate is the APC and its defeated candidate, Gboyega Oyetola. We therefore declare that no amount of pre-emptive attacks will scare the PDP and the electoral commission from upholding the sanctity of electoral data as contained in the primary data sources, the BIVAS machines. We are also confident that no criminally minded anti-democratic force can succeed in blackmailing and intimidating the electoral body from succumbing to forgery and falsification of data.

Hacking INEC Server Won’t Help APC – PDP

We are therefore using this medium to sternly warn that no effort will be spared to defend the victory openly conferred on the Governor-elect, Senator Ademola Adeleke. We will not allow under whatever guise any attempt to deny the people of Osun state their inalienable rights to elect the leader of their choice. No subtle threat or subterfuge will cow democratic institutions from standing by the outcome of the electoral process which has rebranded the commission as an agent of true democracy.

We consequently call on the APC to stop its journey on the road to electoral banditry as soldiers of democracy are awake to arrest and nip in the bud any fascist move and plot. We particularly urge the INEC chairman , Prof Mahmud Yakub to take judicious note of this development and end a shameful drama around the integrity of the electoral data. INEC must stand by the publicly announced results and primary data obtainable from the BIVAS machines.

Finally, we reassure the people of Osun state that electoral armed robbers will fail in their bid to effect daylight robbery. Our eternal vigilance is redoubled and we stand by the watchposts to protect and retain a divinely given mandate.

Osun Guber: APC Heads To Tribunal, Rules Out Peace With Aregbesola’s Group

Published

on

By

Osun APC tribunal

The All Progressives Congress (APC), says it plans to challenge the results of the July 16 Osun governorship election at the election petition tribunal following the advice of the party’s lawyers.

Mr Gboyega Famodun, the state APC Chairman said this at a news conference on Thursday at the party secretariat, in Osogbo.

Famodun said that the decision followed assurances by the party lawyers who said that there were good grounds to challenge the results after they had studied them.

“We are going to the tribunal. Our lawyers had informed us that we have good reasons to challenge the results of the election at the tribunal,” he said of the decision of the APC to challenge the Osun guber election.

He decried the suspected anti-party activities of an APC faction in the state”The Osun Progressive (TOP)”.

The Chairman said that the faction, which was under the control of the Minister of Interior and former Gov. Rauf Aregbesola, worked for the opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP), to deny the APC victory at the election.

“The recent  protest by the group, calling for his removal as the party’s chairman  and the restructuring of the party, after they openly supported  the PDP candidate, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, during the governorship election was shameful and wicked.

“Our position is that the protest was shameful, callous, primitive, selfish, wicked, misplaced and inconsiderate for the Aregbesola supporters, who glaringly worked against the success of Gov. Oyetola at the polls, to now be canvassing restructuring of the party through a sponsored protest.

“Assuming without conceding that there are challenges within the party, the protesters and their patron should know that they lack moral right to either suggest or effect any likely solution for the restructuring of our party, as it is on record that they massively and collectively worked against Oyetola.

“Since  members of the factional group  (TOP) people, had done their worst by working assiduously and conscientiously by teaming up with the PDP for the success of Adeleke, which is the highest level of an anti-party activity that can be committed by any politician, it will be a needless venture to enter into any pact with the  group that is bereft of honour,” he said.

Highlights of the briefing included the passing of a Voters of Confidence on Gov. Gboyega Oyetola and Famodun by the state executive of the party.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on July 17, declared Sen. Ademola Adeleke of the PDP as the winner of the Osun governorship election with 403,371 votes.

While Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of APC placed second with 375,027 votes.(NAN)

Osun Election: APC Chairman Condemns Protest By Aregbesola’s Supporters

Published

By

Aregbesola supporters protest

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the protest embarked upon by supporters of the Interior Minister, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, against the state leadership of the party and the administration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

It would be recalled that the placard-carrying Aregbesola supporters under the aegis of The Osun Progressives (TOP) embarked on the protest in Osogbo, the state capital, from under the iconic Olaiya Flyover junction, where they mocked the governor and the leadership of the party over the loss of the July 16, 2022 governorship election in the state.

According to the state chairman of the party, Prince Gboyega Famodun, in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Kola Olabisi, in Osogbo, the protest was shameful, callous, primitive, selfish, wicked, misplaced and inconsiderate for the Aregbesola supporters who glaringly worked against the success of Governor Oyetola at the polls to now be canvassing restructuring of the party through a sponsored protest.

In Famodun’s words: “When I heard that the supporters of the immediate past governor of our state, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, were protesting, I thought my memory was playing me false as they cannot insulate themselves from whatever might be the current plight of the APC in Osun State.

Aregbesola’s Supporters Have No Basis To Protest – Famodun, APC Chairman

“Assuming but not conceding that there are challenges within the party, protesters should be told that  they lack moral right to either suggest or effect any likely solution as it is on record that they massively and collectively worked against Oyetola, the APC governorship candidate in the just-concluded election in line with the series of their threat.

“One would have thought that the appropriate place for them to canvass for the restructuring of any party is Senator Ademola Adeleke’s Ede country home whom they voted for with flaunted pride.

“If I may ask, at what point did it occur to you that the political party that you had abandoned for about three years which you have been working against needs restructuring?

“Did the Adeleke Dynasty not fund your series of campaigns of calumny against Oyetola and the leadership of the party at the Aregbesola Campaign Office where you converge every Thursday with the task of scrambling to outdo one another in lampooning Oyetola’s administration and the leadership of the party?

Aregbesola’s Supporters Can Exit Osun APC – Famodun

“If you all have conscience, I will enjoin you to do individualistic soul-searching and ask yourselves if you are worthy to be called the members of our party again by your actions and inactions which partly contributed to our  temporary loss of the Osun State governorship election.

“Was it after you were rebuffed by the Pathfinder group faction  leadership of  the PDP  which pungently refused you patronages after the governorship election as it was witnessed by the composition of its Transition Committee membership that you thought of coming back into the party with a sing-song of restructuring?

“It is however, pertinent to state here that there is a free entry and free exit in any political party which memberships are bonded by common interests and ideals.

“Since politics is a game of number and the more the merrier; continuous membership of our party is not foreclosed to any genuine member whose interest would not be counter-productive to the interest of our party as you cannot be an outsider and be canvassing for the restructure of the party” Famodun explained of the protest by the Osun APC supporters of Aregbesola.
