Congratulating Shehu Sani For Honourable Outing
By Abdulmumin Giwa
Even as Dr Datti Baba-Ahmad decided not to do politics as dirty as it appeared and withdrew from the gubernatorial primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna to protect his integrity, Senator (Comrade) Shehu Sani chose not to withdraw but to do it the right way to carve out an indelible history for all.
Yes, what he did actually revealed the true nature of the Nigerian system that corruption has eaten deep into its causus. His declaration that he will not participate in the act of buying delegates with exorbitant money makes him stand out as the most respected, most disciplined, most honorable aspirant with integrity.
People always wonder why Nigeria continues from bad to worse and always having leaders that are super corrupt, heartless and detatched from the people they are ruling. The answer is simple. It is because most Nigerians as individuals believe in corruption and even praise and reward corrupt people.
More so, most Nigerians demonize individuals that don’t engage in corrupt practices, they insult them and keep away from them.
One wonders why political party delegates are for sale. This is the most dishonorable, disgraceful and disreputable act. They are always for the highest bidders irrespective of who those bidders are. They could be people that have stolen huge sums from public cuffers, who have contributed immensely to the economic chaos of the country, that has rendered them jobless, homeless, unsecured, with no basic amenities like water, electricity, roads, healthcare delivery and others. They simply collect their money and vote for them to lead them and refuse to vote for people with integrity, what a shame. They choose to collect moneis in just a day and suffer for four years.
Yet the same Nigerians after eating their loot come out to be shouting that they have bad leaders who have destroyed education in the country, killed industrializationa and rendered developmental progress impossible. One is tempted to ask, what more do you expect when thieves rule?
What moral right have you to point accusing fingers at corrupt leaders when they paid you to vote for them? Definitely, if you sell your democratic right to a money bag, you loose the moral right to challenge his misdoings in office.
I have heard a lot of people cheering with the political party delegates that it is primary election time and it is their harvest period. This is very shameful.
Definitely only those who control enough loot can have enough to give the delegates. It is the money the aspirants shower that will decides who emerges as the candidate and not his integrity and dignity. Where is honor in this? What is honorable about this? It is definitely shameful. It proves more that it is Nigerians themselves that don’t want to change from corruption to discipline.
Why would one be so desperate to be voted for that he will engage in vote buying? Why would delegates choose to vote for the most desperate person? What value would a desperate politician add to the lives of the people? Definitely things will continue to move from bad to worse. People will forever continue to refer to governments that succeed others as being worse than those that they have succeeded.
By this, Nigerians will continue to face, more inflation, devaluation of currency, poor GDP, insecurity, and a lot of retrogression simply because they accept to wine and dine with corruption.
I believe Senator (Comrade) Shehu Sani today stands out as the most responsible, most honorable, most truthful, most disciplined and most honest politician for this display of dignity and integrity. He accepts to loose honorably than to win dishonorably and corruptly even as he has his ways to also buy delegates and even win the primaries. I salute him for this greatness and call on Nigerians to celebrate him.
