The Prelate of the Methodist Church in Nigeria, His Eminence Dr Samuel Kanu Uche who was kidnapped along with two priests while travelling through Abia State on Sunday has been freed, multiple sources said on Monday night.

An official of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN confirmed the development just as a member of the denomination.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the Methodist prelate was kidnaped along Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia.

Everyday.ng quoted a member of the denomination while confirming the good development as going to social media to praise the Lord.

“Praise the Lord . . Hallelujah. His Eminence Dr. Sam Chuckuemeka Uche, Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, and those kidnapped with him have been released. Thanks for your prayers and please join us in praising God Almighty, our faithful and ever compassionate Creator, for answered prayers . And may He put an end to banditry, kidnapping and terrorism in our fatherland.”

The prelate was kidnapped alongside Rt. Rev. Dennis Mark, the Methodist Bishop of Owerri and the Prelate’s Chaplain, by yet to identified gunmen.

They were reportedly kidnapped in the afternoon while they were on their way from a programme in the council area. The Police Public Relation Officer in Abia, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, confirmed the incident on Sunday.

“It’s quite unfortunate. Efforts are on top gear toward his rescue as well as other priests with him.

“We solicit credible information from the public toward their rescue, please,” he said.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG had reported that the officials of the church had been contacted over a ransom demand of N100 million for the release of the three hostages. It is not known if any amount was, however, paid before the kidnapped Methodist Prelate and his associates were freed.
