Finally, Jonathan Dropped From APC Presidential Race
Dr Goodluck Jonathan has finally been ruled out of contention in the All Progressives Congress, APC presidential race after the party came out with a list of 23 aspirants it has approved for screening.
Jonathan who has been repeatedly mentioned as the choice of a powerful cabal in the presidency was not in the list.
The development came as it was reported that President Muhammadu Buhari has banned the release of photographs of himself and Jonathan as a way of suppressing innuendos that the alleged comeback bid of the former president was being backed by him.
GWGNG sources have further confirmed that the president in querying the reports of his endorsement of Jonathan had asked, “how can I go and raise his hand?”
Political sources in Abuja say that Jonathan was not against the plan of the cabal but was only insistent on being adopted as a consensus candidate, a script that appears to have been buried with the party’s refusal to include him among the list of 23 presidential aspirants cleared for screening.
Last April President Jonathan had kept canvassers of his 2023 comeback in suspense after they besieged his house to demand his declaration for the contest.
“You are calling me to come and declare for the next election. I cannot tell you I’m declaring. The political process is ongoing. Just watch out,” Jonathan had said.
Jonathan’s apparent inclination towards the APC was further highlighted by his apparent disconnect from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the platform he rose from deputy governor to governor, vice-president and president.
He has abstained from meetings of the party and was a notable absentee at the party’s national convention in Abuja last weekend.
