The Nation Reporter Shot As Burial Procession For Man Killed By Police Is Dispersed
A reporter with The Nation Newspaper in Osun State, Mr Toba Adedeji was shot on Tuesday as police dispersed a crowd of mourners bewailing the killing of a citizen Abiola Afolabi, allegedly by policemen last April.
It was gathered that Adedeji was shot alongside a teenager in the Olaiya area of Osogbo who were keen on dispersing the mourning procession.
It was gathered that the mourners had covered at the Olaiya area for the burial of Afolabi who was shot on April 4, 2022 allegedly by policemen.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Citizen Abiola Afolab was allegedly shot in the leg at his friend’s house in the early hours of Monday, April 4, 2022 in front of his house. The case has energized the civil society community in Osun State who have asked for justice over the case.
Afolabi was buried on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 and his friend had organized a rally to press their case for justice when The Nation reporter was shot in the melee.
The immediate circumstances that led to the shooting of the Adedeji and the yet to be named teenager have not been revealed.
However, it was gathered that Adedeji was in front of The Correspondents’ Chapel office when the bullet came his way. The circumstances of the bullet which hit the teenager could not be immediately confirmed.
The police have also not reacted to the latest development on how The Nation reporter was shot.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG gathered that Adedeji had been rushed to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital for treatment.
