Lawan Limping As APC Governors Prune Aspirants To Five

All Progressives Congress, APC governors are meeting this Tuesday morning ahead of the opening of the party’s national convention to prune down from the five aspirants that they submitted to President Muhammadu Buhari as among their favourites as the preferred presidential candidate of the party.

The five submitted at the end of midnight meetings were are the Vice-President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo; former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu; Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Dr. Kayode Fayemi; former Minister of Transportation, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi; and Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi. The president of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan who has refused to rule himself out is also in consideration.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Lawan who appears to be the favourite of the national chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu is, however, not getting any support from the governors who have insisted that the presidency should be shifted to the South.

In an apparent reaction to the reports that exposed his gaffe on Monday, Adamu it was gathered decided to lock journalists covering the APC away from the secretariat.

Adamu it was gathered also did not meet with the governors as was expected to prune down the list as had been expected.

It was gathered that following the consultations with the governors that the president directed them to prune down the list to two or three where consensus was not reached to enable a more manageable exercise.

The governors are expected to go into that meeting any moment from now to prune down the APC presidential aspirants before the commencement of the national convention.

Meanwhile, President Buhari has written to the delegates converging for the national convention not to be swayed with money or any other inducement that may be dangled before them.
