As a measure to stop an escalation and prevent any reprisals, the Bauchi State Government, through the Chief of Staff, Government House, Aminu Gamawa, announced in a statement, the imposition of a 24-hour curfew on the three communities.

After three days, the government, in another media statement signed by the Chief of Staff, Gamawa, relaxed the curfew by 12 hours – from 6 pm – 6 am.

Exactly two weeks later, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Umar Sanda, announced the suspension of the 12-hour curfew.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, a Superintendent of Police, and made available to journalists in Bauchi on Tuesday.

He said the suspension followed a review of the improvement of security in the area within the last couple of days, this is even as he called on community and religious leaders to monitor the behaviours of youths in the area and report any suspicion to security agencies.

“CP Umar Mamman Sanda visited the warring communities on an inspection visit where he assessed the security situation of the communities, sympathised with and comforted the natives, and as well directed a thorough investigation into the matter to bring the perpetrators to book.

“The CP appeals to community and religious leaders, youth leaders in the area, and the general public to maintain a close watch over the behaviours of youths as well as happenings in the area and report any suspicious activities noticed to the nearest police station to forestall the future reoccurrence of such incident,” he stated.

He urged citizens not to panic but go about their normal businesses as there is “no cause for alarm.”

He assured, “The officers and men of Bauchi State Police Command are ever ready to respond to a distress call and any other security situation to stop it from degenerating further.”
