Northeast, Northwest Fight As APC Settles For Muslim-Muslim Ticket

There were indications on Wednesday that the presidential Candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu would on Thursdays running mate having resolved to go the way of a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the deadline given by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for the submission of running mates is Friday.

The decision to run a Muslim-Muslim ticket it was gathered was upon the imperative of harvesting the majority Muslim population in the North to back the APC ticket which already has a Muslim on the top of the ticket.

However, the Northwest and the Northeast are in firm battle for the slot of the running mate with the North-Central completely locked out of the battle.

Among those speculated to be in top contention for the ticket from the Northwest are Kebbi State governor, Senator Atiku Bagudu, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, of Kano, and Alhaji Kabir Ibrahim Masari from Katsina state.

Also in serious contention for the ticket from the Northeast are the immediate past governor of Borno State, Senator Kasshim Shettima and a former Secretary of the Buhari Support Group (BSG) and ally of the President Muhammadu Buhari from the days of All Nigerian People’s Party (ANPP) and Congress for Progressive Change ( CPC), Dr. Ibrahim Bello Dauda.

The prospects of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Mr Boss Mustapha were believed to have been dimmed by the resort of the APC for the Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Meanwhile, another consideration being used to balance the ticket is the focus on the legacy parties which formed the APC.

It was gathered that with the New PDP wing having produced the national chairman in the person of Senator Abdullahi Adamu and the old ACN producing the presidential candidate in Asiwaju Bola Tinubu that the old CPC bloc should produce the running mate.

That consideration is reportedly also being used to push the aspiration of Dauda, a management consultant.
