Just about two months after the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, joined his ancestors, one of his older queens, Olori Kafayat, has also passed on, palace sources confirmed on Saturday morning.

Though details of her death are yet to be confirmed by the family, it was reliably gathered that she died late Friday night in the United States of America.

She was the mother of Prince Adebayo Adeyemi, the Chairman, Oyo State Local Government Pensions Board.

Confirmation of her death was made by the Director of Media and Publicity at the Alaafin Palace, Mr Bode Durojaye, who confirmed the development to a correspondent of Punch on Saturday morning.

The newspaper quoted him as saying: “She died in the United States of America. I will give you the details later.”

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Adeyemi passed on Friday April 22 at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, after a brief illness. He was at the time of his passage 83 years old and reigned for more than 50 years.

A successor is yet to be appointed to fill the vacancy left by the deceased monarch.

Besides Queen Kafayat, the late Alaafin of Oyo was known to have married several wives including some young ladies in his old age but like the other senior queens, she stayed in the background while the younger queens shone in the limelight in the last days of Oba Adeyemi.
