Against the background of the solid funds left behind by Mr Peter Obi for his successors, mixed reactions were at the weekend trailing the request by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to the Anambra State House of Assembly to approve a N100 billion loan.

According to reports, Soludo’s letter to the state lawmakers dated July 5, 2022, the loan facility will be used for the construction and refurbishment of key infrastructure in the state.

The governor’s letter was read at the plenary on Friday by the Speaker, Mr Uche Okafor.

Making the announcement, the Speaker said, ”Mr Governor, is seeking the approval to secure a N100bn Global Limit Multiple Term Loan Facility for the construction and refurbishment of key infrastructure in the state.”

The letter was thereafter referred to the House Committee on Public Accounts for consideration and they are expected to revert to the whole house on July 21.

Recall that, on assumption of office in March, Soludo had said he inherited a heavy debt burden from his predecessor, Chief Willie Obiano, and that the state will need to think out of the box to generate money to run its affairs.

Reacting to the loan request by Governor Soludo, several Nigerians rued the fact that Peter Obi instead of borrowing left more than N75 billion in cash for his successors.

Some of those who commented asked Soludo to go and learn from Obi how to govern a state without resorting to loans.

@ajerejc: Nigerian politicians and taking of loans are mutually inseparable. That’s why there’s quality gap between Peter Obi and most of them. They should be humble enough to ask Peter Obi how he did it in Anambra.

@iammaniehanson: I think he needs to attend a MasterClass on how to run the state without loans from H.E @PeterObi

@barnabas_okojie: I thought by now, y’all do be running to Peter Obi and seek knowledge

@gqtower: Politicians will tell you what you want to hear, thereafter they will follow what the sciences say.

The state can’t survive without this and more loans for infrastructure development and other government activities

@kabirjibril1: I trust Soludo he will do well, just that these people haven’t tasted good governance before reason they will find this strange.

Without loans states can hardly develop. Good luck Prof. Soludo

@michaelonah13: What did he want to build with 100b? I know that the one he steal as CBN governor isn’t enough for him.

@femzyboy: Must you all borrow money? Where are tax payers money? I know this Soludo has been a thief for long so am not surprise with his move. 100b naira loan. Can you explain what you intend to so with the huge money? Thieves.
