Outrage As Electricity Workers Set To Join ASUU Solidarity Strike

Nigerians were on Tuesday expressing outrage as it emerged that the National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE was set to join the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) organised strike planned to show solidarity with striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

The resolution of the electricity workers was made known in a memo dated July 22, 2022 and issued by the NUEE General Secretary, Joe Ajaero in which he urged all members of the union to participate actively in the protest.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that, the NLC had recently announced plans for a joint protest with other affiliate unions to protest the prolonged ASUU strike which has persisted since February 14, 2022.

The memo read, “In line with the NLC’s directive and our position which was made known at the Central Working Committee (CWC) and National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Congress.

“All members of the union are enjoined to massively mobilize and actively participate in the NLC/ASUU solidarity protest against the continued closure of Nation’s Tertiary Institutions scheduled for 26/27 July, 2022.

“You are encouraged to work with the leadership of State Executive Council (SEC) of the Congress in your various states with a view of having successful outing.”
