ASUU strike threat

Strong displeasure has followed the decision by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), on Monday to extend the five-month old strike by another four weeks.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the National President of the union, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke in a statement on Monday, disclosed that the decision to further extend the strike was to enable the FG satisfactorily resolve all the outstanding issues raised.

The development was sequel to an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council of the union held at the Comrade Festus Iyayi National Secretariat, University of Abuja, Abuja, on Sunday.

The statement read in part, “Following extensive deliberations and taking cognizance of Government’s past failures to abide by its own timelines in addressing issues raised in the 2020 FGN/ASUU Memorandum of Action (MoA), NEC resolved that the strike be rolled over for four weeks to give Government more time to satisfactorily resolve all the outstanding issues.

“The role-over strike action is with effect from 12.01 am on Monday, 1st August 2022”.

Reacting to the development, many Nigerians via their handles expressed their anger saying that given the lack of concern by the FG that ASUU should itself have had a rethink for the interest of the students.

See reactions below:

@tampioruobari: This is clearly an outgoing government who has no interest in returning to power, wisdom demands that ASUU suspends the strike and take on the new government in 2023. A new govt will be so engage to meet their demands than an outgoing govt. ASUU teach strategic management o. Okay

@iam_shaga: ASUU are nothing but a bunch of Tyrants , Heartless , Worthless and Useless people that are only after their interest and egos not the students or masses .

@teecruie1: Asuu needs to be dissolved.. they’re not helping matters either..  this is not the best way to dialogue..

@code4living: ASUU is selfish the FG should dissolve them bcs they are sabotaging the education system which might turn out to be an added menace to what the contr3 is facing bcs lots of students might result in criminal activities. Though I am in support of the unfair treatment of workers.

@x_warith: The president, the entire asuu committee… may God delay whatever good is left in y’all’s life.

May God fors@ke you and put you in everlasting s@dness ??
