Terrorists’ Plot On Lagos: Police Give New Details
The Police in Lagos on Monday gave further details of the alleged plot by terrorists to attack Lagos assuring, however, that there is no reason to panic.
Lagos Command spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin appearing on Arise Television’s The Morning Show disclosed that the command got hint of a possible plot a week ago and immediately put machinery on ground to neutralize it.
Hundeyin who was very reassuring in the interview with the television anchors nevertheless urged the public to be cautious and observant of any strange development that may occur around them.
He further said that there was no need to restrict movements at this time saying that the Lagos police was on top of the terrorists in their plots.
“We got the intel about a week ago and you know we have brother intelligence agencies we relate with. But asking me about the nature of the intelligence and what exactly it is, I don’t think I want to,” he said.
“We are making the best of what we have and we are confident that with the support of the good people of Lagos State that we will surmount these challenges.”
Apparently giving credence to the warning given by Odua Peoples Congress, OPC leader, Gani Adams about the presence of terrorists in forests in neighbouring states, he said:
“Somebody saying that terrorists are camped in some states in the Southwest, well, he did not mention Lagos State, he has said his bit and we do not discountenance it, we also take that into consideration to ensure that we fortify Lagos State which is our immediate jurisdiction.
“So, we are working on every available information just as we call on people to let us known if they see anything suspicious. So we are not discountenancing it, we are working on it.
“The threat level is not alarming and if it gets to the level to tell them where or where not to go, we will give that information.”
The police spokesman was, however, vague on whether the terrorists plot on Lagos was from Boko Haram or ISWAP saying:
“But at this point we will want people to go about their lawful businesses. We are doing all that we can, the entry and exit points within the state are being closely monitored and we can assure Lagos that there is nothing to worry about.
“Yes, I was deliberately vague about the intel we are working on but that is in the best interest of everyone. But for now, the threat level is not alarming, we are not restricting anyone’s movement.”
“We want people not to relax because security is everyone’s business and the moment you notice anything just alert the nearest police station.”
