Nigerians Hail As Police Dismiss Officer Caught Beating Civilian

Nigerians have been reacting with commendations for the police hierarchy dismissed a police officer, identified as PC Liyomo Okoi who was captured in a viral video beating a civilian with cutlass.

The video had sparked massive controversy on social media as Nigerians expressed anger and called for justice.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG gathered that the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba after expressing interest in the matter summoned the officer to his office in Abuja.

Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, via a tweet said the IGP following the summon to Abuja on Thursday had condemned him for his actions.

He wrote: “GROSS MISCONDUCT: NPF has dismissed PC LIYOMO OKOI, Force No 524503,attached to Ekori Divisional Police Headquarters, Cross River State, who was captured in a video that went viral on 31st July, 2022, where he was flogging a civilian with cutlass, with effect from today 8th August, 2022. He is ceased to be a member of the NPF, and we urge members of the public not to have any official dealings or transactions with him henceforth. We will always do the needful to sanitise the NPF and uphold the standards and values of the Nigeria Police Force. Thanks.

Reacting to the development, Nigerians via their handles hailed the Force for punishing the officer while others insisted that he should face the law for assault.
