General Lucky Irabor, The Chief of Defence Staff, has assured Nigerians that nothing will hinder the 2023 General Election.
Irabor, gave the assurance during a press briefing at the defence headquarters, Abuja, on Tuesday where he stated that the military remained committed to it core responsibilities of protecting the lives of citizens and the democratic ideals in the country.
According to him officers of the Force will do everything possible to ensure that nothing hinders the poll from holding.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that as a result of the rising security challenge facing the country, that there have been speculations by many Nigerians on the prospects of the 2023 polls holding as scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
This is as the activities of terrorists and bandits continue to surge across states despite efforts by security agents.
However, the Defense Chief recounted the military’s covenant to protect Nigeria’s democracy, confirming that it has not changed its position.
Irabor was present at the event in an attempt to solicit the support of the media organisations towards tackling the security challenges in the country as he assured that the General Election which is integral to democratic rule will not be affected.
It is the second in the series of engagements between the chief of defence staff and executives and editors of media organisations in Nigeria.
He also disclosed the arrest of the gunmen that attacked Saint Francis Catholic Church in Owo months ago.
The general, however, did not reveal the number of arrested suspects arrested.
