Obi, Wike, To Meet Monday Night As Rivers Gov Ponders New Options
By GWG Political Editor
Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is scheduled to meet Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Monday night as the Rivers State helmsman weighs his options in the face of the continuing crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Mr Obi’s visit to Wike will be the second since they met on June 22. At that time, Wike had just lost the PDP presidential primaries.
However, with issues emerging from that primaries yet to settle, Wike has become a bride to different political actors weighing in for consultations.
GWG reports that the APC has been most strident sending in emissaries through governors and other high ranking officials for consultations with Wike.
Ahead of the latest visit by Obi, a source close to Wike told GWG that Wike has not made up his mind on his next actions between Atiku Abubakar, Bola Tinubu and Peter Obi.
“Yes it is true that Obi is coming to meet Wike but he has not made up his mind. He has to listen to all groups and he will together with those around him take a decision on which way to move,” the source said.
GWG had earlier reported that representatives of Atiku and Wike have also planned a peace meeting but the proposal it was gathered are being held back by one of the major demands of the Wike camp on the resignation of the national chairman, Senator Iyorcha Ayu.
The demand flows from the fact that all major positions in the party are being held by northerners. The demand is also being pushed by the ego battle by the Wike camp to pay back Ayu who they believe was openly sympathetic towards Atiku and against Wike at the PDP convention.
