Teacher Who Swims To School Daily Hailed As A Hero

A video of a 36-year-old head teacher, identified as Kwame Mensah, who swims to school as a result of the challenges of non availability of motorable roads in her rural area of Ghana has sparked massive reactions on social media.

The Head teacher of Lonpe MA Primary School, became a sensation following a viral video that captured moments of him swimming in the river Dakar while heading to school.

The video of the teacher who swims to school daily was shared by Ghana’s TV3.

However, according to Kwame, his connection with rural schools began when he graduated from college in 2009.

He revealed that the pupils in the area are at a huge disadvantage as he is the only one teaching all the classes.

“Teaching in rural communities is not an easy task, especially as I have to swim across this river everyday to get to my school. My family is very worried.

“The pupils are at a huge disadvantage because I have to teach all the classes from basic one to six and this is stressful”, he said.

According to Ghana’s TV3, Kwame owns a motorbike which is his frequent means of transportation to the school, but there are occasions where it breaks down the teacher is forced to swim through a river to cover a considerable part of the journey.
