Nasarawa Commissioner regains freedom

The Nasarawa  State Commissioner for Information Culture and Tourism, Alhaji  Yakubu Lawal who was kidnapped five days ago has regained his freedom it was confirmed on Friday.

The commissioner regained his freedom following what the police claimed was sustained pressure on the kidnappers. It was not known if ransom was paid.

GWG had earlier reported that the kidnappers had picked the commissioner from his residence in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area on Monday at about 9.45 a.m.

The Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO) in the State, DSP Ramhan Nansel confirmed the  release according to The Voice Newspaper.

He said the kidnappers released the commissioner following the pressure on them by the combined siege on them by the police and other security operatives.

” The abducted commissioner for Information , Culture and Tourism,  Mr Yakubu Lawal was  released  at about  1800 hours today due to sustained pressure from the combined security agencies  deployed to rescue him unhurt.

“He has been taken to the hospital for medical examination after which he will be reunited with his family,” Nansel, the Nasarawa Command spokesman said in confirming that the state commissioner for information had regained his freedom.

The Police Spokesperson however noted that security surveillance had been intensified in Nasarawa Eggon local government area following increased insecurity in the area.
