Atiku, Wike Meeting Ends In Smiles
Hours after Governor Nyesom Wike led his camp in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to a meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, his team has also met with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar with smiles evident at the end of the encounter.
The meeting in a London hotel involved Atiku, Governors Wike, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Sam Ortom of Benue and Okeize Ikpeazu of Abia State.
Details of the meeting were not immediately available but the meeting on Thursday evening came against the background of the crisis in the party sparked by what those aligned to Wike alleged as the unfair treatment given to him after he lost the PDP presidential primaries.
Besides the claim that the convention was twisted by the party’s decision to allow Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal step down for Atiku, the Wike team also claim that the promise by the presidential candidate to make Wike his running mate was breached.
The Wike team is demanding as its minimum demand that the national chairman of the party, Senator Iyorcha Ayu should step down.
The demand is upon the claim that all the major positions in the party including the presidential candidate, national chairman and chairman of the Board of Trustees are all from the North.
The meeting between Atiku and the Wike team is supposed to soften the crisis and allow the party to forge ahead as a united body and the prospects for such were rekindled with the smiles that were seen on the faces of the different camps at the end of their encounter on Thursday.
