An armed group in the Niger Delta known as Niger Delta Creekmen have opposed the N4bn monthly pipeline surveillance contract awarded by the President Muhammadu Buhari led government to a former militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.

GWG reports that, the former militant leader,  Tompolo, was awarded with a pipeline surveillance contract by the Federal Government as a way to stem continuing bleeding of the nation’s oil production.

The contract was signed between the government, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited and Tompolo and  is reportedly worth over N4billion monthly.

A verified source confirmed that following the contract, the former militant leader will have the mandate to monitor and oversee other surveillance contracts, contractors and their activities in the entire Niger Delta.

The Federal Government’s decision to award the contract to Tompolo was trailed with massive backlash from Nigerians.

However, in a recent development, a video which surfaced on social media captured large numbers of armed men who kicked against the decision.

The leader of the group while speaking, disclosed that the decision is unacceptable as they were not consulted before awarding the contract to Tompolo.

According to him, there are more pipelines in his region and he should have been consulted first before any other person.

Speaking in pidgin, he said: “when late President yar’Adua bought peace to the region, he knew the importance of involving everyone. He spoke to those who rejected the amnesty programme then peace reigned and oil production began to flow, now they want us to protect the oil but they gave the contract to someone else to do the job in my community. he has his community, i have mine. He is a man and am also a man”
I was not consulted but they say someone should secure pipelines in my community”
