Key Facts As Arsenal Maintain Unbeaten League Run With 2-1 Over Fulham
By Eze Dike
Arsenal maintained their 100% record start to the season as they fought from a goal down to beat newly promoted Fulham 2-1 at the Emirates stadium on Saturday night. Captain Martin Ødegaard and Gabriel Magalhaes were on the score sheet for the home side as they made it four wins out of four.
Both teams were unbeaten heading into the London Derby and were looking to continue that brilliant run. Mikel Arteta’s men had won the first three games of the season and were looking sharp as ever, while Fulham showed their desire to maintain their Premier League status with two wins and a draw against title favourites Liverpool. The first half was evenly matched as both teams failed to find an opener but threatened on several occasions.
The second 45 minutes proved to be a hectic encounter with the visitors breaking the deadlock through talisman Alexsandr Mitrovic. The Serbian grabbed his 4th goal of the season as he pounced on a defensive error from Gabriel and finished precisely to continue his fine goalscoring form.
Arsenal’s 100% start to the season was in a precarious situation but they were given a route back into the game as Martin Ødegaard’s deflected effort went past former teammate Bernd Leno.
Gabriel then made amends for his earlier mistake as he scored the winner for his side with three minutes to go from a tantalising corner by Martinelli.
Mikel Arteta’s men now remain the only team to win their first four games of the season as they sit top of the pile in the Premier League standings. Here are key facts from the game as Arsenal beat Fulham 2-1;
• After winning their fourth consecutive game of the new season, Arsenal have made their best start to a Premier League season for the first time since 2004-05.
• Arsenal are 1st position on the league table with 12 points and remain the only team in the 2022/23 campaign to win their first four games of the season.
• Arsenal have won each of their first four games of a Premier League season for only the third time, after 2003-04, when they went on to win the league, and 2004-05 when they finished runners-up.
