The defection of former Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was on Monday evening being received with mixed reactions from friends and foes.

While some questioned his rapid migration from APC to New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP and now PDP within three months as a sign of his increasing irrelevance, others thought differently.

GWG reports that the PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Vice Presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa, the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu and other party leaders welcomed Shekarau back to the party.

The ceremony to receive Shekarau back from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the PDP was held in Kano State.

Shekarau defected along with thousands of his supporters after a fallout with the NNPP leader and presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The former Minister of Education was also presented with his PDP membership card at the ceremony on Monday.

Reacting to the development, some PDP members and supporters welcomed the former governor back to the party, while others questioned his political relevance.
