The Ikeja Special Offences Court for armed robbery, Lagos, has sentenced Genesis Ezebong, his brother Micheal, and one Ikade Moses to life imprisonment for armed robbery.

The judgement was delivered by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, who found the trio guilty of conspiracy and armed robbery charges brought by the Lagos State Government.

In her verdict, the court concluded that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt, the circumstantial evidence against the defendants.

The defendants were arraigned on December 18, 2020, and the trial began on January 11, 2022.

During the convicts’ trial, the prosecuting counsel, Omowumi Bajulaye, told the court that they committed conspiracy and armed robbery on January 13, 2019, at No. 222 Ikorodu Road, Palm Groove, Lagos.

She said that the trio robbed one Daniel of one Compaq Laptop, one Apple Laptop, gold and outfits, jewelleries, Blackberry phones, one digital camera, soccer shoes, and two other phones belonging to one Titilope Akeredolu while armed with a cutlass, shovel, and other dangerous weapons.

During the trial, the prosecution called three witnesses and presented documents such as the defendants’ statements, which were admitted as exhibits.

Inspector Okunade Olumuyiwa, Titilope Akeredolu, an Investigative Police officer, and Inspector Olawale Oni were among those who testified in court.

The witnesses told the court how the victim’s domestic worker planned with others equipped with hazardous weapons to break into his boss’ house with his gang after he had left for church, and locked the security guard and other residents in the bathroom.

After going to church on Sunday morning, Akeredolu said she received a call from the security guard telling her that the first convict, Genesis Ezebong, her domestic servant, went to her house with a cutlass and broke into her apartment to rob.

She testified in court that the security guard told her about the robbery, how they were trapped in the toilet, and how the suspects broke into her apartment around 10.30 a.m.
