Bagudu Atiku Intervenes as Motorcyclists Protest Alleged FRSC Tyranny

Kebbi Governor Atiku Bagudu has intervened in the clash between commercial motorcyclists and FRSC personnel, which has resulted in highway closures in Birnin Kebbi.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), commercial motorcyclists blocked roads in the state capital on Friday to protest alleged arbitrary arrests and consistent confiscation of their motorcycles by road marshals.

The governor had to intervene before the motorcyclists moved off the roads to allow traffic to flow freely.

He promised to look into the matter and find a long-term solution to the lingering issue.

Bagudu directed that relevant government agencies consult with the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Commissioner of Police in order to reach an amicable resolution.

The governor, on the other hand, stated that while commercial motorcyclists are important to the state economy, they must learn to dialogue rather than engage in illegal activities.

Bagudu, who stated that the government would not prohibit commercial motorcycle operation, as is done in other states, cautioned riders to always follow traffic rules and regulations.

The governor gave the motorcyclists N1 million to cover their expenses.

Alhaji Yusuf Haruna-Rasheed, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Power, advised them to always channel their grievances through the leadership of their association for amicable resolution.

Earlier, the state Chairman of the Commercial Motorcyclists Association of Nigeria, Malam Nafi’u Zakari, informed the governor that the protest was in response to the FRSC’s alleged arbitrary arrest and confiscation of their motorcycles without any violation of the law.

He praised the governor for taking on a fatherly role in the situation. (NAN)
