Police Repel Attack on Bauchi Governor’s Aide
The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the attack on Mr Zakka Magaji, the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Christian Religious Affairs.
SP Ahmed Wakil, the command’s spokesman, told reporters in Bauchi on Friday that seven gunmen attacked Magaji in his home on Thursday night.
He did, however, say that while the governor’s aide was unharmed, one person in the residence was hurt and had to be rushed to ATBU Teaching Hospital for treatment.
“Around 1:00 a.m., the command received a distress call that the house was being attacked by a group of about seven armed men.”
“When the Commissioner of Police, Umar Sanda, received the distress call, he immediately directed the Police E-division to act.”
“The DPO led his team with other tactical Commanders like Rapid Response Squad B-division for a quick intervention, where the armed men ran into the bush,” he explained.
Three empty shells of 7.6mm ammunition were recovered at the scene, according to him.
He stated that the police had increased patrol in the area in order to track down and apprehend the gunmen.
Wakil assured the public that the command was doing everything possible to protect citizens’ lives and property, and he asked for more cooperation from the general public.
He urged people to be security conscious and to provide security agencies with timely information on suspected criminals so that they can take appropriate action.
He said this to ensure safety of the people against any form of attack which may likely be planned in the future. (NAN)
