Queen’s Funeral: Coffin Carried into Westminster Abbey
The coffin of Queen Elizabeth II has arrived Westminster Abbey for a grand state funeral attended by 2,000 guests, including world leaders.
The state gun carriage carrying the coffin was hauled to the abbey by Royal Navy sailors, following in a solemn procession by King Charles III and other senior royals in a tradition dating back to Queen Victoria’s funeral in 1901.
Recall that the President of the United States, Joe Biden, and other dignitaries arrived in London for the funeral, which is being attended by approximately 500 royals, heads of state, and heads of government from around the world.
During a silent vigil on Saturday evening, the late Queen’s eight grandchildren, led by heir to the throne, Prince William, circled the coffin and stood with heads bowed.
The funeral of Queen Elizabeth with the world leaders in attendance is being broadcast to a large television audience and screened to crowds in parks and public spaces across the country on Monday (today).
Recall also that People continued to pour into Westminster Hall, where the queen’s coffin is draped in the Royal Standard and crowned with a diamond-studded crown.
The queen’s coffin will be moved to nearby Westminster Abbey for the funeral on Monday morning, capping off ten days of national mourning for Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.
Following the service at the Abbey on Monday, the late queen’s coffin will be transported on a gun carriage through the historic heart of London. It will then be transported to Windsor in a hearse, where the queen will be buried alongside her late husband, Prince Philip, who died last year
