Prof Jesse Uneke, Vice-Chancellor of David Nweze Umahi University of Medical Sciences in Uburu, Ebonyi State has  expressed optimism that students in higher education institutions across the country would soon return to school to continue their studies.

Jesse Uneke stated this during a media interview with journalists at the University complex in Uburu, emphasizing that the University was not on strike because the 2022/2023 admissions process had begun for all prospective students.

“We are hopeful that the ASUU/FG saga will be resolved and our children will be able to return to school.” Our university has been operating normally, and we are not on strike.”

According to the VC, the University has “17 programs in 19 Departments running in the University.” Apart from student feeding, the reduced tuition fees cover accommodations, utilities, development fees, medical fees, and Departmental fees, among other things.”

He stated that the University would be commissioned on May 5, 2022, during Buhari’s visit to the state. There will be an official handover ceremony. We are fortunate to have a Federal University serving the South East region.

“We are rounding off the first session. The University is well established and it is good for Ebonyi and South East of Nigeria. It has translated to some forms of benefit. The school fees have been reduced drastically. The 2022/2023 admission exercise has started. Those who scored 140 in JAMB should apply with the requisite WAEC and NECO results. We are also admitting students who are on transfer to the University.

“We are trying to give children the opportunity to be admitted into the University. This is a modern university and we are ready to give the students the best. We have some of the lecturers you can boast of in the country. We are mindful of the quality of the training coming out from the University. We have a blueprint that will make this University rank one of the best in the country.

“About N2 billion is being expended every year on medical tourism and we want to reverse that trend. We have a State of the Art medical equipment in our Teaching hospital in the University.

“The tuition fees are affordable within the reach of the average Nigerian. The University has taken off fully. When our students graduate they can practice outside the country. We have a template for the exchange of students under bilateral agreement.”
