The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, is about travelling to the United Kingdom, UK for an undisclosed meeting but aides were on Monday insisting that it was neither for medicals nor to meet with Governor Nyesom Wike and his group.

Tinubu according to sources is expected to meet with an unnamed group in the UK and will immediately return to Nigeria before the official flag-off of the presidential campaign.

GWG reports that campaigns for the 2023 national elections are expected to officially kick off on 28 September ahead while that of governorship and state houses of assembly will commence on 12 October, according to the guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Tinubu trip to London according to aides was expected to have taken place last week but was held back by issues over the constitution of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).

Against the background of insinuations on the health of the APC presidential candidate and the covert meeting with the camp of Governor Wike in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, aides were quick to clear the air saying the trip by Tinubu was not connected to any such.

“Yes, he (Tinubu) travelled to the UK yesterday. He is to meet with some people in the UK. He ought to have left the country last week, but he had to postpone it because of the whole campaign council list. The meeting is not with the Wike’s group and not for a medical reason,” one news source reported.

“Yes the consultation with Wike and others is still ongoing, but this is not about that. A group invited him for a meeting. For now, I cannot disclose the identity of the group,” the source said in ruling out that the Tinubu trip to the UK was for medicals or to meet with Wike.
