Adoration Ministry: Mbaka Removed, Worshippers Attack New Priest

Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka, Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria (AMEN), has been removed from his position at the Adoration chaplaincy and replaced with Father Anthony Amadi.

GWG.NG reports that Fr Mbaka had previously announced in a statement on Thursday that he would resume his duties at Adoration Ministry on Sunday.

However, it was gathered that the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Callistus Onaga had made an attempt to replace Mbaka with another Amadi but his move was met with resistance on Sunday as the congregation attempted to mob the new priest.

Mbaka had barely announced his successor when the Adoration faithful who had flocked to the Emene ground to greet him after a three-month suspension erupted in rage.

They were stunned by Mbaka’s transfer after months of suspension and vehemently opposed the new Chaplain.

The revolt was soon directed at the new priest, Fr. Anthony Amadi, who had to be whisked away as the crowd surged to attack him, according to SaharaReporters.

According to sources, Mbaka will spend the time in a monastery.

Meanwhile, some Adoration faithful who spoke to SaharaReporters vowed that no other priest would be welcome at the Chaplaincy, alleging a church-wide conspiracy against Mbaka.

Mbaka’s road to the monastery started on June 3 when the diocesan bishop, Most Rev Onaga, barred him from commenting on partisan politics.

Shortly after the initial ban was lifted, Mbaka violated it by verbally attacking Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, calling him a “stingy man.”

Following the outrage and condemnation that accompanied the attack on Obi, the Bishop issued a pastoral injunction on attendance at Catholic Adoration Ministry Chaplaincy Enugu, and enjoined all Catholics to refrain from visiting the ministry until further notice.

The Bishop also encouraged Catholics to pray for Ejike Mbaka, a move that came before he was removed. Onaga stated, “After several fraternal corrections and admonitions to Fr. Camillus Ejike Mbaka, the Chaplain of the Ministry, and after having given him pastoral directives and guidelines for the Ministry Chaplaincy, which he persistently violated.

“In addition, as the Chief Shepherd, I have the responsibility to promote and protect the Catholic faith.

Morals in Enugu Diocese, I hereby prohibit all Catholics (clergy, religious, and lay faithful) from attending any religious or liturgical activities of the Catholic Adoration Ministry until the Diocese’s due canonical process is completed.

“My decision is based on the fact that some of the teachings and utterances of Fr. Camillus Ejike Mbaka at the Catholic Adoration Ministry are not consistent with the teachings and faith of the Catholic Church.”
