Church Dogs Killed After Killing Passerby
Two German shepherd breed dogs who strayed from the Catholic Church where they were guarding to maul an Hausa man, Hashiru Isah, to death in the Abule Egba neighborhood of Lagos have been killed.
The unguarded German shepherds were said to have left the church grounds and strayed onto the street, where they attacked and bit Isah in various parts of his body while he was on his way home around 11.30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2022.
A community leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of being harassed, said some Hausa men, who were enraged by the death of their tribesman on the day of the incident, hunted down the dogs and killed them.
The source said the dogs of the feared German Shepherd breed escaped out of the church’s premises because the church’s gate was faulty.
He said, “On that night, the tribesmen of the Hausa man that was bitten to death killed the two dogs. On the second day, the case was reported at the Oke Odo Police Station and the man guarding the dogs was arrested.
In his reaction to the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, had said the case file was still open.
He noted that the victim’s family had refused to show up at the station after collecting the body for burial. Within Nigeria
