Ronaldo Scores His 700th Club Career Goal

Cristiano Ronaldo has reached another milestone in his illustrious club career by scoring his 700th career goal in the Manchester United cracker with Everton.

The goal took the Portugal forward’s tally to 144 for United in his two spells at the club.

He scored five for Sporting Lisbon, 450 for Real Madrid and 101 for Juventus.

It is only the second goal of the season for Ronaldo, whose 699th  goal came in the Europa League against FC Sheriff.

Ronaldo started the game on the bench but came on for the injured Anthony Martial in the 29th minute and scored 15 minutes later to put United 2-1 up.

A brace for Portugal against the Republic of Ireland moved him onto 111 goals for his national team, overtaking Ali Daei, who scored 109 times for Iran between 1993 and 2006.

At club level, he is also the all-time top scorer in the Champions League with 140 goals – 13 more than long-time rival Lionel Messi.

Ronaldo’s latest 700th goal also extends his advantage over Messi in total club goals scored, with the Argentina forward on 691 for Paris St-Germain and Barcelona.

Sources told ESPN he wanted to leave United to continue playing in the Champions League, but clubs including ChelseaBayern MunichParis Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich all turned down the chance to sign him.

Ronaldo has been restricted to a role off the bench under new boss Erik ten Hag, with his first goal of the season a penalty scored against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League.

The Portugal star has scored the bulk of his tally for Madrid, where he became the club’s all-time top scorer with 450 goals from 2009-2018 after leaving Old Trafford for the first time.

He has scored 144 goals for United across two spells there, 101 goals for Juventus and five for Sporting, while he boasts 50 hat tricks.
