The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has conditionally suspended its eight-month-old strike.

The suspension of the strike comes after last week’s Court of Appeal ruling and marathon meeting by ASUU leaders.

The union decided to suspend the strike during a meeting of its leadership that started on Thursday night and lasted into the early hours of Friday, Vanguard reports.

The meeting was called by the union to determine its next line of action after its state branches met over the Court of Appeal ruling last week.

Members of the union’s National Executive Committee, which comprises the chairmen of the state chapters and members of the national executive, attended the meeting at the ASUU National Secretariat in Abuja.

Recall that many stakeholders, including the ASUU chairman, Emmanuel Osodeke, have expressed optimism that the strike will be called off in a matter of days.

ASUU strike had lasted for 8 months with several failed negotiations.

The student union, NANS had protested on several occasions in order to force both ASUU and the government to resolve their differences to no avail.

Hearing that ASUU has conditionally suspended the 8-month-old strike will make students to be elated.
