Jonathan Puts Aside 2015 Betrayal, Backs PDP (Video)
Former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, has endorsed the Atiku/ Okowa presidential bid, putting aside the alleged betrayal by some party leaders to identify with the political aspirations of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
GWG.NG reports that President Jonathan rose to political glory on the ticket of the PDP but following his defeat in the 2015 presidential election pulled back from actively identifying with the party.
The inclination of Jonathan was premised on the alleged betrayal he suffered in the hands of some party men and others who left the party at that time to challenge his second term.
Among those who contributed to his defeat was Atiku Abubakar, who left the party for the All Progressives Congress, APC but returned to fly the party’s flag in the 2019 presidential election. Atiku is also flying the same ticket in 2023.
Another active collaborator was former Governor Babangida Aliyu who as chairman of the Northern Governors Forum rallied governors from the North to ensure the defeat of Jonathan.
However, Jonathan revealed his return to waving the PDP flag when he received a PDP delegation led by vice presidential candidate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as well as Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state on Wednesday evening.
In a video making round on social media, GEJ described Governor Okowa as Nigeria’s incoming Vice-President.
Mr Jonathan further stated that he is willing and ready to support and work for the success of the PDP in the 2023 election.
On his part, Governor Okowa said it is important to seek the support of President Jonathan and with his blessing, the PDP is poised for victory in February putting to history the alleged betrayal that had shaded the relationship between the former president and the PDP.
