Niger Couple Beat Police Officer Dispatched To Arrest Them

Abdurrazaq Ibrahim, 30, and his wife, Nana Ibrahim, have been remanded in Niger State for assaulting a police officer who was dispatched to their home to arrest them.

The couple was arraigned before a magistrates’ court in Madalla town, Suleja LGA, Niger State, on Tuesday.

The prosecutor, ASP John Atine, told the court that the couple, Abdurrazaq and his 24-year-old wife, Nana, beat the policeman, Constable, Abubakar Abdullahi, around 2pm on Monday.

He said, “The policeman reported back to the division where re-enforcement was redeployed and the two of them were arrested.’’

Recall that the Niger State Police Command stated that it had arrested 326 suspects for various offences.

This was  disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, Kuryas, during his retirement pull-out parade at the Police Training School in Minna some days ago.

Kuryas stated that 284 of the arrested suspects had been charged to court and successfully prosecuted while 42 suspects were under investigation and awaiting trial.

“The arrests and prosecution were made between August 10 2021, when I resumed as the Niger State commissioner of police to October 2022.” He said.

He also said that the suspects were arrested for offences ranging from culpable homicide, armed robbery, kidnapping, cattle rustling, rape to unlawful possession of firearms.

For assaulting a police officer, the couple will be tried in court.
