Group Launches Forensic Examination Of Akwa’s Tenure As NDDC Sole Administrator
A pan Niger Delta group has commenced a forensic examination of the activities of the erstwhile sole administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC Mr Effiong Akwa towards unveiling what it claims as the irregularities that took place under his stewardship.
Comrade Joseph Ambakederimo, Chairman Board of Trustees of the Community Development Communities of Niger Delta Oil and Gas producing Areas in a statement made available to GWG.NG claimed to have documents of the irregularities that took place while Akwa held sway as sole administrator.
The group in the statement said it has now launched a Freedom of Information, FOI request to get official documents as pertaining to the alleged irregularities.
Vowing that the aberration of a sole administrator would never be allowed in the NDDC again, he said:
“We have enough documentary evidence that shall be put forward to justify our call for the prosecution of Effiong Akwa and his cohorts. Enough evidence is out there to compel the Anti-Corruption agencies to swing into action, if they fail to do the needful we are very ready to supply them with the leads.
Noting the forensic examination of Mr Akwa’s time as sole administrator at the NDDC, he said:
“To further buttress our claim of massive corruption under the management of Effiong Akwa, we have directed our counsel to commence a Freedom of Information request on the management of the NDDC to provide certain critical information during the three years under Akwa’s leadership. Some of the requests borders on the list of contracts awarded and beneficiary companies and owners of the companies, justifiable amount paid so far to such companies and if mobilisation fees and what percentage of mobilisation fees paid, compliance level of remittance of statutory three percent payable by international oil and gas companies including the indigenous oil and gas companies, total revenue accured to the commission from the oil and gas companies during the period under review, the numbers of certificates of no objection issued by the bureau of Public Procurement on contracts awarded that exceeds the threshold of the interim administrator. All of these and many information and requests we sought covers from April, 2017 till date.
“Never shall there be a repeat of this interim appointment that negates the provisions of the NDDC act be allowed to rear its head in the NDDC, we must follow due process and work within the ambit of the Act setting up the commission. It is only when this is done we can now achieve the real hardcore development that has been our aspiration for the region.
“Never again should due process be circumvented for personal aggrandizement in the management of the NDDC. We should allow the board to run its full course and this will be the only way appointed officials can be held accountable and appraised for their stewardship,” he said in support of the forensic examination of the time of Mr Akwa as sole administrator of the NDDC.
“And for those who would continue to advocate for interim sole administrator to run the affairs of the NDDC, we implore such persons to desist from such ignoble act including those persons who may have overtime misdirected the President’s hand must stop.
“We must not conclude this statement without first commending the Honourable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs Obong Umana Okon Umana, for his steadfastness and clear mission and vision for the Niger Delta region. This feat was not achieved without serious push back from persons whom have taken the NDDC as their personal estate without recourse to the larger region.
The group while commending President Muhammadu Buhari also pledged to “mobilize our people within the length and breath of the region to support the efforts of the Honourable Minister Obong Umana Okon Umana for his service to the region.”
