Controversy Over UI Lecturer’s $100 Gift To First 10 Students After ASUU Strike
Controversy was brewing on Tuesday afternoon after a lecturer at the University of Ibadan, UI, Dr Biyi Olawuyi debunked a viral tweet of him instigating a $100 gift to each of the 10 students who attended his class after resumption from the ASUU strike.
The lecturer’s denial is in the face of testimonies by some of the students who showed the $100 bills that they respectively got from the lecturer.
Many are now wondering if either the lecturer is trying to play humble or perhaps the students were playing a prank.
GWG.NG reports that the news of the $100 bonanza for the students who supposedly attended the first lecture was shared on twitter by Peteru of Ibadan @peter_pentane who tweeted thus:
Ọmọ, one lecturer for art in University of Ìbàdàn give 10 students who attended his first class 100 dollar each. 😂😂😂
While he showed the evidence from the tweet of some of the students who got the bonanza, others who heard about it expressed their lamentations at missing out.
Many people expressed doubts with some asking what was the lecturer’s salary to have prompted him into such a windfall.
To those critics, Peteru replied:
However, not long after, the UI lecturer, Dr Oluwayi responded in a tweet denying ever providing the $100 gift to each of the students at the first post ASUU strike lecture.
GWG.NG reports that Dr. Olawuyi describes himself as a Teacher by calling; communicator by training; aficionado of public speaking activities; convener, SuperBowl public speaking contest at the University of Ibadan.
