Malpractice: Philippines Students Wear Anti-Cheating Hats Into Exam Hall

Photos of college students in Legazpi City, Philippines, wearing “anti-cheating” hats into the exam hall have surfaced online.

The students were seen in the now-viral photos wearing various amusing headgear to avoid peeking at each other’s papers during the exam.

The headgear was constructed using recycled materials such as egg boxes, cardboard, Halloween masks, and motorcycle helmets.

According to Mary Joy Mandane-Ortiz, the idea’s initiator, the concept has been “really effective.”

The method, according to the teacher, was introduced during her school’s recently completed mid-term

exams.

The professor of mechanical engineering at Bicol University College of Engineering stated that she initially asked the students to create a simple paper design.

Mandane-Ortiz stated that the students took the concept a step further by creating innovative complex headgear in “just five minutes” using waste from their surroundings.

In terms of the idea’s impact, Mandane-Ortiz stated that her students performed better in their exams this year than in previous years.

According to her, this was due to the students being forced to study hard knowing that they would be unable to cheat in the exam hall.

The professor stated that several of her students finished their tests early and that no one was caught cheating this year.

The strategy has elicited a slew of mixed reactions across social media platforms.

Mandane-Ortiz is said to have gotten the idea from a similar technique used in Thailand in the past.

The development is also said to have inspired other schools and universities in the country to implement a similar strategy to prevent exam malpractice.
