Anti-Semitic Comments: Some Top Coys That Dumped Kanye West
Kanye West, the controversial US rapper, has faced harsh criticism for his recent anti-Semitic remarks.
In a series of anti-Semitic social media rants, West claimed that Jews controlled Hollywood and vowed to “go Defcon 3” on the Jewish people, apparently referring to the military readiness condition. West also debuted “White Lives Matter” t-shirts at his Yeezy Season 9 show during Paris Fashion Week on Oct. 3, 2022.
His actions sparked outrage and increased public pressure on the rapper’s business partners to cut ties with him.
Here are seven major companies that fired Kanye West because of his anti-Semitic remarks.
1. Adidas
The sportswear company severed ties with the rapper on Tuesday after a “thorough review” of his anti-Semitic remarks.
The company announced that it would no longer do business with Ye.
“Antisemitism and other forms of hate speech are not tolerated by Adidas.” According to a statement from the German company, “Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful, and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect, and fairness.”
The sportswear company’s announcement dealt a significant blow to the rapper’s financial standing, depriving him of his billionaire status.
Adidas estimates that terminating this partnership will cost the company 250 million euros ($248 million) in net income this year. His Yeezy line was estimated to bring in $2 billion per year, accounting for nearly 10% of Adidas revenue.
2. Balenciaga
Balenciaga, the top fashion brand, also announced on October 21 that it had severed ties with the rapper due to his remarks. He had collaborated with the French company to develop a Gap line.
“Balenciaga no longer has any relationship with this artist, nor do they have any plans for future projects involving this artist,”
3. Gap
According to the Associated Press, Ye decided to leave the clothing company in September.
Kanye repeatedly slammed the retailer on Instagram in mid-September, announcing his intention to terminate their contract.
However, Gap went out of its way on Tuesday to announce the end of its Yeezy Gap product line.
“Our former partner’s recent remarks and behaviour highlight why. According to a company statement, “we are taking immediate steps to remove Yeezy Gap products from our stores.”
4. JP Morgan Chase & Co.
In early October, JPMorgan Chase Bank was one of the first companies to cut ties with Kanye. In a letter, the major financial institution informed the rapper that they were terminating their banking relationship with him.
Candance Owens, a friend of Ye, shared an alleged letter from the financial institution on her Twitter account, telling the Chicago rapper to move his money elsewhere.
According to reports, JPMorgan Chase is ending its relationship with Ye due to his anti-Semitic remarks.
5. Vogue
Vogue, a fashion and lifestyle magazine, reportedly ended their long and close relationship with Kanye West on October 21, 2022. Its Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour, has stated that she will not work with Kanye again because of his anti-Semitic remarks and White Lives Matter agenda. Page 6ix states that
Kanye also attacked one of their editors, Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, for criticising him for wearing a White Lives Matter t-shirt to his Paris fashion show.
6. CAA
On October 24, the Creative Artists Agency (CAA), who started representing West’s tours in 201, ended its contract with the music mogul, citing a similar reason for its decision.
7. Footlocker
The sneaker retailer announced that it would not stock Yeezy products going forward and asked employees to hold them in stores’ backrooms pending further instruction on October 21.
“Foot Locker, Inc. does not tolerate any form of antisemitism, or hateful and discriminatory behavior,” the company said in a statement. “While we remain a partner with Adidas and carry a wide assortment of their collections — we will not be supporting any future Yeezy product drops, and we have instructed our retail operators to pull any existing product from our shelves and digital sites.”
