BREAKING: FG Takes Over Properties Of Detained Ekweremadu

40 landed properties alleged to belong to the former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu who is presently in custody in the United Kingdom over issues trying to obtain an organ transplant for his sick daughter are to be taken over by the Federal Government.

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday issued an order of interim forfeiture of the 40 landed properties said to belong to Ekweremadu, who is currently in custody in the United Kingdom.

GWG.NG reports that a move earlier made in 2018 to confiscate properties allegedly claimed to belong to the former DSP collapsed after the senator raised objections that many of the properties linked to him were fictitious.

The interim forfeiture order now obtained includes 10 of Ekweremadu’s properties in Enugu, three in the United States of America (USA), two in the United Kingdom (UK), one in Lagos, nine in Dubai, and 15 located in the Federal Capital Territory.

The trial Judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo gave the order following an ex-parte motion marked, FHC/ABJ/CS/1242/2022 filed and moved by Ibrahim Buba on behalf of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Ruling on the motion, the Judge ordered EFCC to publish the interim forfeiture order of the properties in a national daily within seven days from the date the order was given.

Justice Ekwo adjourned till December 5, 2022, for a report on objections from members of the public regarding the properties.

Ekweremadu and his wife are standing trial in the United Kingdom over allegations of organ harvesting.
