“The climax of ceremonies will come up on Thursday, when 7,554 graduands will be awarded with the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) of the College, in their academic session sets” he said.

Omokungbe, an engineer, said that the ceremonies would begin with a Jumat and an inter- denominational thanksgiving service on Nov. 18 and 20 respectively, while the convocation lecture would hold on Nov. 21.

He gave the convocation lecture topic as ‘Emergence of successful young entrepreneur in current Nigeria economy: the place of integrity’ to be delivered by Mrs Kafilat Araoye, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Lotus Bank.

On the sidelines, the Rector, disclosed that the college had beefed up its security architecture with the presence of the police to complement its internal security unit.

Omokungbe spoke against the backdrop of the Sept. 15, 2022 shooting in the college by some suspected cult members which led to the death of a male HND1 Graphics student.

According to him, the management did a study of how the unfortunate incident happened and found out that some bad boys came into the college that evening.

“It is on this sad development that we partnered with with men of the police force at Sabo, to be patrolling the college environment between 6.30pm and 10pm everyday.

“We have also been able to install 300 Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) cameras around the campus through a partnership with an organisation,” he said.

Omokungbe emphasised on some of the college’s achievements, saying  it had continued to advance in its strides towards ensuring academic excellence.

He said it was maintaining a fairly stable academic calendar, with improvement in physical infrastructure and capacity building.

Besides briefing on the graduation, the YABATECH Rector identified other achievements as the setting up of a radio station, 89.3 FM and major rehabilitation of hostels and classrooms.

‘The College was ranked as the best Polytechnic in Nigeria on three occasions by Webometric ranking.

“Also YABATECH was selected as a TETFund Centre of Excellence and as an i-hub Centre by UNESCO-UNECVOC, the College is also one of the two Institutions selected for TVET in Africa,” he added.

He, however, said that funding had been a major challenge in the last five years, and declared that the college had put in place a strategy to confront this through its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). (NAN)
