Everybody Deceiving Everybody As 2023 Intrigues Deepen In Delta
The intrigues over the 2023 General Election in Delta State are increasingly becoming more complex with stakeholders allegedly playing deceit against one another.
GWG.NG reports that the decision of Governor Ifeany Okowa to push Speaker Sheriff Oborevwori as his successor has not been welcomed by a large and influential section of the party with many of those loyal to the penultimate governor of the state, Chief James Ibori among the most displeased.
However, after winning several court battles and the fate of Ibori’s immediate family members in the balance, the state’s most prominent political godfather has increasingly taken a back seat.
“Because of his daughter and Chief Amori, Ibori is hiding his cards, but I can confidently tell you that he is not backing Sheriff,” a member of the PDP Campaign Council told GWG.NG.
Ibori’s distaste for the Sheriff candidacy was demonstrated two days ago when he kept away from a PDP campaign rally that was brought to his home in Oghara, the source disclosed.
However, Ibori’s option in supporting Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the APC governorship candidate multiple sources say is already putting him in difficulty as the Okowa/Oborevwori alliance is increasingly gaining the momentum with some former critics falling into line.
“It will be an uphill task for Omo-Agege to upstage Sheriff because the permutations are all in his favour,” a prominent journalist visiting the state for an on the spot assessment told GWG.NG from the Delta Central. The ethnic factor is also said to be working for Oborevwori as the Okpe sub-clan in Delta Central look towards him the source added.
However, on account of the burdens and weights carried by the Okowa government especially in the way Oborevwori emerged, there is much suspicion around those who claim to be supporting the PDP candidate.
“No one knows the truth as everybody appears to be deceiving everybody,” a source said in disclosing intrigues over the 2023 Delta governorship with many people not being open on their real intentions.
The veil of suspicion and intrigues over the 2023 Delta governorship became more complex following news that supporters of David Edevbie, the aspirant backed by Ibori held a meeting in Lagos last weekend where some strategic decisions were said to have been taken. One of those, one source said, was for Edevbie to apply to be joined in a different disqualification suit filed against Oborevwori by another governorship aspirant, Aghwarianovwe Ikie.
