“I Will Govern Not Rule. Only Kings Rule” – Atiku Abubakar
Aspiring to lead, is ambition borne of sterner stuff. Ambition – that inert desire in man, that most oftentimes, brings out two opposing extremities in man; narcissism and modesty.
In aspiring to lead, leaders either rule or govern. To rule implies dominion, exercise of ultimate power or authority over people, which necessarily will not be to the benefit of the ruled.
On the contrary, to govern is an aggregate of activities to the benefit of the citizens. To govern is to hold in check, to conduct policy actions of a nation and her people. Modesty is hallmark of they, that govern.
Man’s most honourable intentions, are best captured off the cuff. They are most often, not found in prepared documents as such may be embellished. They are found in words uttered in solemnity. Words that escape from the lips in moments of sobriety.
Atiku Abubakar uttered the words: *”I will govern not rule. Only Kings rule “,* in a sober moment in the midst of a few associates, including my humble self.
As Atiku Abubakar seeks the consent of us Nigerians he desires to govern, it is my prayer that God gives him more wisdom to govern over our lives, as God in His mercy, gives him victory in next year’s presidential election.
Senator Ehigie Uzamere became the first person to win re-election from the Edo South Senatorial District having won election on the platforms of first the PDP and then the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN. He is presently a Special Adviser to Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the PDP
