Ibadan: Never Again!
The young man, caught with a dagger at the recent rally of Mr. Peter Obi in Ibadan, Oyo State reminds one of how the first and only Igbo Military Head of State, Major-Gen. Johnson Thomas Umunakwe Aguiyi Ironsi was murdered in Ibadan by some Military officers on 29th July, 1966.
In the putsch, late Francis Adekunle Fajuyi, a Yoruba who was then the Military Governor of the defunct Western Region also paid the supreme price, in a patriotic effort to save a Nigerian Head of State of Igbo origin from undeserved death in Ibadan.
Ironically, it was in this same Ibadan that a questionable attempt was made again, probably on a prospective Nigerian President of Igbo extraction(Peter Obi).
At the same Ibadan rally, another Yoruba leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, like Fajuyi, stood up for another Igbo leader, Peter Obi. There is definitely a spiritual dimension to what has happened in Ibadan.
Never again will the blood of another Igbo leader be shed on Ibadan soil or on the soil of any other part of Yoruba Land.
The lesson from History is that the Igbos and Yorubas have a common fate in the Nigerian Project.
Those who seek to pitch the Igbos against the Yorubas will never succeed.
Those who chose to kill Ironsi in Ibadan(Yorubaland) were aware of the consequences of carrying out the act in the North. They also knew that the assassination would have failed in the East. They, therefore chose Ibadan as a neutral ground.
History will never be repeated again along this course of action as we struggle to free Nigerians from Political Predators.
The butchers of Ibadan(the late Odumegwu Ojukwu called them this name) shook Nigeria to her foundation.
All Nigerians, irrespective of differences in tribe and religion, must rise up in defence of our democracy and the future of our Country.
Today, Peter Obi symbolizes the Struggle of the Nigerian people against age-long misrule. The consequences of any hurt on him, would be too grave for our Country.
