APC expel Babachir Lawal

Strategists in the All Progressives Congress, APC are waiting on President Muhammadu Buhari to give the go ahead to plans to expel his longtime associate, Babachir Lawal from the party, it has emerged.

Also under the weight of sanctions is former Speaker Yakubu Dogara who was last weekend appointed as a special adviser to opposition candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

GWG.NG reports that the appointment came after a Dogara inspired group of Northern political leaders had adopted Atiku as its preferred presidential candidate.

Babachir Lawal had earlier adopted Peter Obi as his preferred presidential candidate.

It has now emerged that APC chiefs have commenced moves to expel Lawal from the party but are said to have faced two snags according to a report in Vanguard.

One, the strategists disclosed that plans to expel Babachir Lawal from the APC cannot go ahead without the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari who is seen as his “godfather”.

The second reason is that those who want him expelled from the party have not got the buy-in of Lawal’s ward executives in Hong LGA.

“They want the process to emanate from the executives. As for Dogara, you had Asiwaju saying the other day that the man is no longer a member of the APC, that he had since resigned his membership of APC and joined the PDP. Dogara and the PDP have not denied that,” said a top party source.
