Whether as a foster parent or curios to know about foster care there are basics things that you must know about.

Neglect leads to foster care

A lot of children in the foster care system are there not because their parents were malicious, but simply because they didn’t have the means to provide for the children properly due to circumstances beyond their control.

The goal is to return the child to biological parents

A foster family is there to take care of that child and make sure they’re safe and prepare them  to go back home. Foster parents must do whatever they can to make sure the line of communication with the bio family stays open.

Foster children may not be communicative at first

It is  common to see foster children not wanting to communicate at the early stage because of the trauma of being removed from parents.  Therefore, resilience, perseverance, and being open to listening to a child who may immediately not want to be very communicative can help in integrating such a child to the fostering home.

Involves in intensive training

Foster parents must donate a considerable amount of time to participating in intensive training programs that prepare them for everything from the introduction to the end goal which is reunification and goodbye.

Requires a lot of communicating with social workers

Sometimes the timeline for reunification may be delayed as a result of biological parents’ inability to show up at the right time. So the parenting foster child must be prepared to engage a lot of communication either with the court or social agency until the child is fully reintegrated.
