Nasarawa Government Discovers 7 IDP Camps

No fewer than seven Internally Displaced Person’s (IDP) camps which had operated for seven years independent of the Nasarawa State Government have been discovered and are to be brought under government supervision.
The camps populated by displaced persons from the Northeast according to investigations had been under the care of the authorities of Karu Local government Council who provided the IDPs with about 4 hectares of land for farming. The IDPs it was gathered established a beans market where they market their products.
Speaking on the development, the Director General of the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency, Barrister Zachary Allumaga regrated that the agency was not availed of information on the existence of the IDP camps by the Karu LGA authorities.
Allumaga said that Gov Abdullahi Sule would be visiting the IDP camps in Karu to interact with the displaced persons and donate relief materials to them to cushion their hardship.
“The governor of Nasarawa state, Abdullah Sule has arranged to fraternize with the IDPs said to be from the Northeast who have been part of the state for the past seven years and the Agency is not aware of.
“Some NGOs have built schools for the children, and the IDPs are given four hectares land for farming. We will go into other areas that are extremely relevant to assist them to better their lives”, the DG declared
