All Three Elections Buhari Lost Were Heavily Rigged – Mamman Daura Says In Documentary
The three elections that Muhammadu Buhari lost between 2003 and 2011 were heavily rigged by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mamman Daura, the president’s nephew has said in a documentary chronicling the Buhari presidency.
In an interview in the documentary, the “Essential Muhammadu Buhari” Daura asserted that one of the reasons Buhari “broke down” during his 2011 campaign for president was the rigging and lack of confidence in the electoral process.
Recall that in 2011, during one of his campaign rallies, Buhari declared that that would be his final run for the presidency.
He had said, wiping tears from his eyes, “I will not present myself again for election into the position of the president.”
Buhari, according to Daura, “broke down in pity for the system (electoral) in the country,” not because he was afraid of losing, Daura said in the documentary.
He added that Buhari merged with other political parties in 2013 as a result of the pervasive rigging.
President Muhammadu Buhari defended the assertion in the documentary.
The PDP “was so certain that no one could remove them and they were not careful,” the Nigerian leader claimed.
He also remembered how his former party, the Congress for Progressive Change, persuaded major figures such as Bola Tinubu of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party and Rochas Okorocha from a group of the All Progressives Grand Alliance to unite, leading to the creation of the APC, which ultimately gave him victory in the 2015 general elections.
