APC Accuses Tambuwal Of Playing Politics With Stoning Incident

The Sokoto State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of playing politics with the lives of the people of his state following the government’s stern reaction to the stoning of the convoy of the governor last Sunday.

GWG.ng had reported that the reaction followed the stoning of the convoy of the governor while he was returning from a campaign tour of Silame and Wammako local government areas of the state.

Among those who were said to have escaped the stones thrown at the Tambuwal convoy were the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidates of Sokoto and Kebbi states: Malam Saidu Umar (Mallam Ubandoman Sokoto) and Gen. Aminu Bande (rtd), and the deputy governorship candidate of Sokoto State, Hon. Sagir Bafarawa among others.

Two vehicles in the convoy were, however, damaged by the attackers some of whom have been arrested.

Reacting to the development on Monday, Governor Tambuwal said:

On our way near the campaign office of Senator Aliyu Wamakko, hoodlums attacked my convoy on the way to the Government House

“The matter is being investigated by the security agencies. Some arrests have been made. Rest assured that the law will take its course. I appeal for peace in the state. We cannot afford to toy with the fragile peace that we enjoy in Sokoto. I therefore enjoin all political leaders to eschew violence and to advice and counsel their followers and supporters to go out and campaign peacefully and look for votes and not perpetrate violence.,” the governor stated.

But addressing a press conference in Sokoto on Wednesday following the stoning incident, the state chairman of the APC, Isa Sadiq Achida, accused Tambuwal’s administration of being comfortable with the security situation and wanting to use it as a campaign tool.

He said, “Aminu Waziri has been shifting the blame on the federal government, while in other states, governors have taken leading roles in curbing banditry.

“The Sokoto State governor has maintained the back seat and deliberately allowed the situation to deteriorate so that it could provide him with an excuse for political mischief.”
